My art is a reflection of many things.
My art has a distinct style.
My style is a deconstruction of light that allows me to breathe visual abstractions into every form. My work sometimes appears to be a digital production but always remains completely hand crafted. Society is sitting in the middle of digital and analog worlds and that's where I want my artwork to be positioned. My paintings are a "simple seduction". I use simple elements that convey an immediate message while still offering more when you fully engage. Upon engagement, viewers are seduced through the use of striking colors, subject matter and composition. I will continue to play with how to portray light in unique ways to bring magic to the eye and the viewer.
With my approach I aim to bring my art to a broader, more unsuspecting audience. Art leaves cultural artifacts with the world to represent some form of existence. I primarily focus on a black experience because I want to keep black culture in the world’s time capsule while also creating balance in the representation of “black”. History has pounded negativity + stereotypes onto the race and out of that rubble I want powerful images to emerge that place the black experience in a vibrant, triumphant and beautiful manner.
My art is meant to be accessible.
My art also serves as a way for me to help my community.
Offering up inspiration for viewers, I hopefully will encourage them to utilize
their greatest weapon…their mind. I love beautiful images for their power to affect the world that
they exist in. Unfortunately the art world has been relegated to a
very small part of society. It isn't accessible to the people that need
the inspiration most.
Experiencing my art in an accessible way is important. The digital experience is a crucial part of accessibility for my generation and myself. I purposefully create engaging digital experiences to honor that. All of my pieces are also available as prints, in addition to the originals, to further promote accessibility. To extend this principle I also place street art in my community.
My art also depicts my journey. I am a creative and artistic person, but I never found a real outlet to express myself until 2009. I took a month off from my regular life to explore a few creative endeavors. During this process, I discovered my capacity to make my imagination a reality through the use of light + color + paint. I number my paintings by their order of creation, because that really illustrates my progression and helps to keep me striving to keep pushing each piece further than the previous. Every piece is done either late night or weekends so my proliferation is a result of less sleep and less socializing which is why I hold each original tightly. They are all children consummated during times I should be enjoying life and have become expressions of that displaced joy that has been found in doing art.
Bottom
line: I want to create cool shit that visualizes my
perspective.
